A 21-year-old inmate at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution was briefly hospitalized Tuesday after swallowing a razorblade, according to a state Department of Corrections spokesman.
Kurtis D. Jones was in a segregation shower cell about 3:30 p.m. when he broke apart a safety razor and cut himself on the arm before swallowing the blade, said spokesman Alec Loftus.
Loftus would not comment on why Jones swallowed the blade.
Jones was treated at an area hospital and returned to the prison later Tuesday, Loftus said.
Jones is serving a three-year prison term on a 2004 conviction in Dane County for felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety and intimidating a victim, according to online court records. He began the term when his probation was revoked in September 2005, records show.
