Records are also kept for those who are to be placed on the sex offender registry. The registry is open to the public and they have a right to know the location of a sex offender. The information in those reports needs to be verified often and updated for release to the public. A parole officer is usually the person first reported to, and then the department if there is a change of address or status. The status could be a violation that has landed them back in jail or even a new violation where they cannot live in a certain area, by a school or day care center in some instances.
